Looking back Global Issues class...

In trimester 1, Global Issues class, we have learnt a lot of things. We leanrt what is Global Issues, how can we make a difference, and why is peace so important. There are alot more questions but these are the main ideas. I found out that our earth is full of trash, so we made a rap about recycling. We also had Socratic Seminar about how is Peace linked to Development. Global Issues are Main Issues around the world. I learnt that to reduce the Global Issues, we need to have PEACE. During our last 2 weeks, we played many type of games, such as 'the 3rd world farmer' and 'Ayiti, the cost of life'. These games were not a easy game, because I had to make careful decisions. However, it was fun and exciting. Global Issues class was fun and it was truly a difficult subject. I had to know about issues around the world in political, religious ways. After I listen to this class I felt that I am lucky to have parents and lucky that I can go to schoo. I also felt that there are many people seeking for our help. So, this class was a chance for me to look around the world and see if there's anyone who needs help. Lastly, I think Mrs. P made our class so interesting and exciting, so THANK YOU!

Peace Day

Can we live without peace?
No, we can't live without peace, because 'Peace' relates to everything. Peace relates to violence, health, hunger...etc. If there's no peace, people will dying from war. Because of the war, the environment gets dirtier so people can also get diseases. If they spend money on their health, there will be no money for food. So, we can't live without peace and we shouldn't live without peace.

What is the link between peace and a country's development?
The link between peace and a country's development is similar to question above. If there's no peace, anything we hope not to happen happens. If a country's people keep dying out and live in poverty, the country can't develop, because they have to take care of their citizens and because citizens are fighting to stay alive, they can't increase tax. As you can see, without peace can even make the whole country miserable. So, we need to have peace.

Playing for change

What is the message?
In video Mark Johnson started up a organization 4 years ago called Playing for change. This organization was made to inspire the people by recording the music from all around the world. Next, they gather the recordings and made it into a music. I think the message of this video is that Music, also can make a difference and give positive impacts to people.

What are your reactions to this?
At first, I couldn't believe that this recording was recorded at different places by different people, because the music was very connected and smooth and united. Also, I was very surprised that people actually can make a very beautiful music no matter where they are.

How do you think this will make a difference?
I think 'Playing for Change' will make a difference, because people can realize that although they are different part of the world, they can make music and be connected to each other or feel they are connected.People might think that they are not part of a group because they are in certain area, however this video shows that Music is one way to include everybody and be united. Also in the video, I noticed that people are smiling and look happy, so playing for change can be making people happy and dragging them out of their miserable life.

Why is it important?
This is important because including everybody is not a easy thing to do, so if everyone give a little attention to people around them, people will feel included. Including people means uniting and gathering people's mind into one, so it makes including so important.

'10,000 Fewer Children Dying Every Day'

When I read this article, I felt that we have making a lot of difference, because 10,000 children are A LOT of children, and it's great that that amount of children are not dying everyday. It says that decrease in deaths can be the reason of increasing in immunizations against measles and other diseases, the growing use of insecticide-treated bednets to prevent malaria, and Vitamin A supplements, which help boost compromised immune systems.

i think we need the world's attention, to save as many children as we could, because although we just donate 2 or 3 ringgit, but if we add the money, it would be thousands and millions of dollars. Many children are dying because of diarrhea, but to us, it's not even a disease. Anyone can cure that if they have money. However, diarrhea, especially for children can very dangerous, because they don't have access to clear water, and if you're having diarrhea, that means you're under dehydration. If EVERYONE can donate a little amount of money instead of buying fashionable clothes we CAN save many people.

"If free health care had been introduced in 2000 when world leaders promised to reduce child mortality by two-thirds, the lives of more than 2 million children could have been saved by now," said Jasmine Whitbread, the head of Save the Children. I agree with her. If we started the process earlier, we could have saved MUCH more children than now. However, it doesn't mean that we are not doing a great job. However, if we give a little bit of attention, we CAN break reduce more under-five death by 2015.

PEACE video

What big ideas did you get from it?

After watching this video, 'Introduction to Peace One Day', I felt that each of us can make a difference to the whole world. No matter how small or big, if you can do something for Peace Day, then we can make a day of Global Unity.

Why is peace so important?

Peace, is so important to people around the world, because we can save many people's lives and also can have one day without violence and killing each other. It can also be a day with relief from pressure and tension. If we have a day of Peace, we can notice many people dying from hunger and diseases that we didn't realize before.

What are Global Issues?

Global Issues are very big issues around the world, such as starvation, wars... Global Issues affect not only one country, but people living in this world. They are very serious, and it's hard to stop. To stop the Global Issues, we need everyone to care about these issues and need everyone's attention.

Why do I care?

I have to care about the Global Issues because it's not a country the issues are effecting. Also, if there are a lot of environment destroying, it would be hard for animals and even human to live.
